PENETRATING DAMP SERVICES IN BRISTOL

Penetrating or Lateral Penetrating Damp is a term for describing the successful penetration of water from the outside of the masonry into the inside of the building, this is most visible as a damp patch on the interior wall(s) causing discolouration etc. Penetrating Damp occurs when water can pass unhindered through blockwork, bricks & stonework etc, where water seeps through the pores to penetrate into the masonry, it is quite often caused by issues with plumbing, porous bricks, damaged brickwork, cracks, faulty seals, faulty Render, building defects, leaking roof or gutters etc. This can cause Watermarks/Tide Marks, Moss Growth on External Walls, Damaged & Crumbling Plaster, Appearance of Stains & Salts, Damaged Timber, Wet Rot, Black Mould, Damp patches on the walls and musty aged smells. Issues with penetrating damp should be investigated immediately as leaving these issues
untreated can lead to more serious damage to the building over time .

SIGNS OF PENETRATING DAMP?

TIDE MARKS ON WALLS A common indicator of Penetrating Damp are Tide Marks on the  internal walls/plasterwork, Tide Marks on the ground floor only of the property up to a height of 1.5m  only may more likely indicate a Rising Damp problem.
EFFLORESENCE ON WALLS Unsightly Plaster Salts/Effloresence present on the affected Internal walls of the property in the form of White FluffyDeposits are another indicator of Damp problems and are usually quite easy to spot
DAMAGED SUBSTRATE One of the signs of Penetrating Damp is damage to Brickwork to  exterior walls of the property, the moisture penetrating the Brickwork leaves  it extremely susceptible to frost damage when the water freezes and expands in freezing conditions
MOSS/MOULD GROWTH Damp conditions are the perfect environment for Moss, Mould,&  Algae growth. The appearance of moss growth on external walls is fairly common as the damp substrate allows Moss and Algae to grow quite rapidly
DAMP PATCHES It's quite common to find damp patches on the walls which do not dry or worsen with rainy weather, more often than not these patches appear to not dry out, also commonly wallpaper & paints peel off the wall in the affected area
DAMAGED TIMBER The wet conditions caused by Penetrating Damp can seriously affect any Timber fixture that comes into contact with it, the excess moisture easily saturates timbers causing them to rot & decay fairly quickly,
